Nurse yourself daily.
You are the newborn and
the mother.
Look into your eyes.
Carry yourself tenderly
swaddled in cotton.
Hear your night cries.
Sing softly and
bathe in sweet oils.
Suffer from amnesia.
Forget the pain of
severing
you from you.
Pray as you go.
This is the only way
to love.

Beautiful. I’m going to share it with my daughter who had a baby two weeks ago tomorrow. Thanks, Jazzy
Jay, Congratulations on your new granddaughter. I have a found object present for you that I’ll drop off at the library today.
Jasmine,
thanks so much for “publishing my poem. And Jay thanks for your appreciation and sharing it with your daughter. Lucky you to be a grandmother!
Interesting how that poem was written so long ago (1992- 18 years) and how just when I’ve returned to newborn care it is shared. I love how life unfolds….
